Safety measures to keep you safe amidst COVID-19

These are harsh times that we all around the world are dealing with, be it the people, the communities, or the countries, right now the entire world is scared of the fact that we don't know what is going to happen. The novel coronavirus COVID-19 has now spread throughout the world and has been declared as a pandemic. But how did Coronavirus become such a pandemic and a threat that we thought of as another mere fleeting situation that would pass by without us being as concerned as we are now? 


The Coronavirus outbreak happened in the city of Wuhan, China, which has a population of over 11 million. Wuhan is famous for its wet market where animals like bats, rabbits, species of birds, and other exotic animals are sold illegally. Humans are put together close to the animals both dead and alive, in unhygienic conditions. This is where the coronavirus is believed to be originated from, as the virus gets transferred from the animals to humans. It is believed that the sellers and vendors were the first people who got infected with this deadly virus. It is not yet confirmed by the health experts that which particular animal is the source of this virus, but it is widely believed that bats are the primary cause of it. 


The next question that arises is how are we supposed to stay alert and fight against this pandemic together? What age group of people is the most likely to fall prey to this virus?


According to a study published in The Lancet, on approximately 190 patients with coronavirus in two hospitals of Wuhan, the patients of older age, who had symptoms of sepsis and blood clotting issues had a higher risk and chance of death from the virus. 


Some of the recent studies and data show that people who are of 50 years and above, and have preexisting conditions or a history of certain diseases are at a greater risk. Conditions like a) Cardiovascular disease b) Chronic respiratory diseases c) Cancer d) Kidney disease e) Diabetes f) Hypertension. Most of these conditions are inflammatory. But that does not mean that people of other ages and healthy bodies are not prone to getting sick or being infected by the coronavirus. 


Being safe and healthy is the topmost priority right now for everybody across the world. Following guidelines and instructions that are published by the World Health Organization and governments is a must. But, just following them is not enough, making your loved ones and people around you understand how important and crucial this protocol is for the entire human race to survive is the goal.
